The Night of Rage

(Part I)

Date Played: 20,27 May 2001

Remember this scene from Reservoir Dogs?

Everyone wants to be Mr Black and, because no one knows each other, no one is prepared to back down.
The session was a bit like this: lots of secret notes to the GM and characters hiding their backgrounds and abilities from each other.

Game Date: Thursday, 21 September 2000

Alisa St James gathered the characters to form a cell and perform a simple task: discover what happened to Joseph Amatore, a retired agent used to verify intelligence. He last contacted Aegis two weeks ago informing them of a message in a dead letter drop. Neither he nor the message were ever seen again.

Checking satellite imagery, phone records and physically scoping out Amatore's apartment, the characters decide to pool their knowledge at Gideon's Bar and Grill, whose phone number occurs repeatedly on Amatore's phone bill. Elizabeth (Flex) dissuades the leader of the Spectres bike gang from a romantic encounter in a doorway. Angela reveals that they are being followed and, based on the evidence, the others conclude that the apartment is empty.

Game Date: Friday, 22 September 2000

At the bar, they discover that Amatore's interest in the local Indian ghost legend is shared by a crazy guy named Charlie. Thomas, the only character who has not annoyed the bar staff, confronts Riggs, the watcher Alisa sent to shadow them.

Thomas and Martin, the two FBI agents on the team, convince John Micelli, the builder supervisor, to open the apartment. They find Amatore's decomposing body in a half completed circle of protection in salt. They take several occult tomes, the contents of his wastepaper basket and shoot several roles of film before leaving and calling the police.

(Part II)

This session started with our heroes talking about trust, co-operation and their backgrounds. The paranoia level within the team dropped remarkably.

Thomas spends several hours dictating from the typewriter ribbons liberated from Amatore's apartment. The corpse was working on a commentary on the Queens' Tome, a manuscript which has given Aegis a new and more practical understanding of psychic ability and the supernatural. Thomas believes that Seepage, shaped by the local's knowledge of the Indian legend, is the key to solving this mystery and that Charlie is the key to Amatore's death.

Game date: Saturday, 23 September 2000

To find Charlie, the team talk to the local priest, Fr. Bradley, who doesn't believe in ghosts, the bartender of Gideon's Bar and Grill, who believes ghosts good for business, and sign up for the Ghost Tour, which turns out to be a complete waste of time.

The breakthrough clue came from Fr. Bradley. While other locals see the spirit of an Indian, Charlie sees the ghost of a Polish cab driver he calls Grebinsky.

Newspaper records at the local library show that a drug dealer by that name was lynched in 1983 by a mob lead by Charlie and another guy. All people involved in the lynching, as far as the team checks, have died of heart attacks or other such circumstances since the event. The only participant still living is Charlie.

Charlie's last known address turns out to be derelict and boarded up so, of course, two of the team break in to investigate. The others watch Riggs who is watching them from the road. Inside, they find Charlie hanging from a light fitting and a stack of newspapers in which the obituaries of the members of the lynch mob have been circled with "guilty" written next to it. They find a note in Charlie's hand writing which say "I'm the last one. You wont get me."

Alisa believes their performance to be satisfactory and says she will be calling on their skills in the future.
