We went to the Cluny Museum last time and were dead impressed. It misses out on a return visit due to time constraints only.

If you haven't been to already or considered it the Musee Cluny is really worth a look.

Medieval tapestries etc housed in an old nunnery that sits on top of the old Roman Forum, this place has got the lot.

Afternoon C & K

I too missed out on Versailles flower beds when I visited - postcards showed you how it looked but as you're experienced - Versailles is as much about how it feels as how it looks and you can only "feel" it in person.

I'm not sure if they have rectified it but when I went there was precious little furniture, most of it disapearing and being sold during and after the revolution. I suspect fully furnished it would be even more of a statment of conspicious consumption.

Escorial outside Madird and the Summer Place outside St Petersburg were similar Palace/Administration constructions but there's something about Versailes is uniquely Sun King/ French.

Great to see the french is flowing it must be adding a lot to your adventures. I look forward to the next instalment
