French Film Festival – 13m2

The first movie on my program for the French Film Festival was 13m2, a nice little character piece about three losers who pull a big heist and hole up in an abandoned suburban courtyard until the heat blows over. That was the plan, anyway. Things begin to go wrong pretty quickly.

Overall, not bad but not the movie I was expecting. I should have twigged when the initial credits showed Barthélémy Grossmann as writer, director and lead actor. Anyone paying attention at that point should have thought to themselves “hmmm…. student production or just out of film school.” The film suffers from all the flaws that this implies.

Still, not a bad start to the five films I've booked tickets for. And coffee afterward in the Valley wit' ma peeps ( and ) was just grand.
